After several planned sessions that were deferred, the polytunnel raising was fixed for the earlyMay Bank Holiday weekend.
Andrew, James and Cherry went down from TT Poole to help out with the construction of the polytunnel on the Under Lanche community farm in Dorchester for TT Dorchester over the bank holiday weekend. We had a very enjoyable day, out in the sunshine, in the lovely setting of their field, nestling in the shelter of the tree lined banks, covered in hawthorn and cow parsley, on the edge of the Poundbury development. We were made very welcome and exchanged information about their project and our transition Town Poole initiatives. By the end of the day, most of the aluminium frame had been joined together, and we left them after a barbecue, with some souls valiently carrying on into the dusk. Their land has been donated by the Duchy of Cornwall, subject to an annnual rent, which prompted me to wonder if it is worth contacting our local largest land owner, Canford Estate, to enquire whether a similar project could be instigated here in the Borough of Poole. It would be good to invite TT Dorchester to join us for a joint working day when we have similar opportunities to a develop something. Hopefully this will eventually arise at Upton farm.
It was great to be there amongst their raised vegetable beds, bee hives, orchard, edible hedgerow, etc and discuss future plans for chickens and pigs.
